Christmas Day 25th

Well usually me and my family open the gifts on christmas eve at twelve o'clock in the morning but this year it was different. This year my girlfriend and her family invited us over to their house and we had a new tradition sort to speak. Well around like seven o' clock we left the house on our way to theirs we had a real good time. there was a lot of food in the kitchen and we loved it it taste good too my mother in law is a cook jajaja. Well we had a nice time and we did some crazy things. We did something that is called a Pollo is a christian dance and we were just acting the fool. We had a great time and i really enjoyed myself i guess this is going to be our new family tradition. I really do agree.

Christmas Eve

Well on christmas i was basically with my girl. We had church together and basically celebrated together. Christmas was real fun as we went to church we had our fun times there adn of course when we went into the kitchen. THere was alot of food to choose from and everything looked delicious. Although it all ended kind of early i had fun with my girl and her family. It was pretty outside we can say we had a White Christmas this year because it snowed. It was surprising i did no expect such a thing as in the morning there was no snow basically it was just cold and there was ice on the road but in the afternoon when i was leaving to church i got real surprised. it felt as if i was living a dream everything was white and the grass looked pretty cool. I wanted to make snow angels but darn i missed out on the chance. well this is a picture of me and my girl on christmas eve.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- In some welcome news on the job front, the pace of U.S. job losses eased in December, according to two reports released Wednesday.

Automatic Data Processing (ADP, Fortune 500), a payroll-processing firm, said private-sector employers cut 84,000 jobs in December, the fewest since March 2008.

It was the ninth straight month that job losses narrowed from the previous month. The number of cuts in November was revised down to 145,000 from the previously reported 169,000.

Economists surveyed by Briefing.com had forecast a loss of 75,000 jobs in December.

"We're moving in the right direction, and I think we're only a month or two away from reporting a positive top line number," said Joel Prakken, chairman of Macroeconomic Advisers, in a conference call.

The service sector reported job growth for the first time in 21 months, with an increase of 12,000 jobs in December, though Prakken said the uptick could be because of an expansion in temporary employment.

The figure was offset by a loss of 96,000 in the goods-producing sector and a drop of 43,000 manufacturing jobs.

"We're still a little ways away from seeing an upturn in employment at the country's plants and on construction sites," Prakken said.

He added that he expects the jobless rate to edge higher to about 10.25% during the first quarter of this year and linger for the next two years, hovering above 9% by the end of 2010 and higher than 8% at the end of 2011.

In a separate report, outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. said that 45,094 job cuts were announced in December, 10% less than November's 50,349 cuts. It was the lowest total since December 2007, when 44,416 cuts were announced.

Despite the recent decline, 2009 was still the heaviest downsizing year since 2002, with employers announcing 1,288,030 planned job cuts for the year, according to Challenger.

The automotive sector was hit the hardest this year, with 174,192 job cuts, followed by the government and non-profit sector, Challenger said. However, in both cases, job losses in the first half of the year were significantly greater than the second half, indicating that job losses may have bottomed out.

"It definitely was a bi-polar year when it came to downsizing," John Challenger, chief executive officer of Challenger, Gray & Christmas, said in a statement. "In the first half of 2009, the economy was reeling from the ongoing housing market collapse, bank failures and the further deterioration of the country's manufacturing base; the automotive industry in particular. Somewhere in the second or third quarter, we turned a corner and, now, as we begin 2010, there are promising signs of continued improvement," he said.
0:00 /4:42Ten years for job recovery

But it could still be a while before the job market improves, Challenger noted, as employers are likely to be reluctant to start hiring again.

The report sets the stage for the highly anticipated monthly jobs report from the government due Friday. The Labor Department report is expected to show that no jobs were gained or lost in December, an improvement from the 11,000 loss reported for November, according to a consensus estimate of economists compiled by Briefing.com. The unemployment rate is predicted to edge up to 10.1%. To top of page

NEW YORK -- Gilbert Arenas tried joking about his gun trouble. David Stern found none of it funny.

Arenas was suspended without pay Wednesday by the NBA commissioner, who determined the player's behavior made him "not currently fit to take the court."

A day after the Washington Wizards guard was photographed before a game in Philadelphia pointing his index fingers, as if they were guns, at his teammates, Stern warned the former All-Star that his conduct will "ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse."

Statements

Stern "The possession of firearms by an NBA player in an NBA arena is a matter of the utmost concern to us. I initially thought it prudent to refrain from taking immediate action because of the pendency of a criminal investigation involving the office of the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia and the Metropolitan Police Department, and the consideration of this matter by a grand jury sitting in the District of Columbia. For the same reason, I directed the Wizards to refrain from taking any action. Wizards personnel continue to be interviewed by law enforcement authorities, some are scheduled for appearance before the grand jury and the investigation is proceeding with the intensity that one would expect for such a serious incident.

"Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game. Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA."
-- NBA commissioner David Stern

Arenas "I feel very badly that my actions have caused the NBA to suspend me, but I understand why the league took this action. I put the NBA in a negative light and let down my teammates and our fans. I am very sorry for doing that.

"While I never intended any harm or disrespect to the NBA or anyone else, my gun possession at the Verizon Center and my attempts at humor showed terrible judgment. I take full responsibility for my conduct.

"Earlier today, I called Commissioner Stern to apologize, and I hope we will be able to talk soon. I look forward to the day I can return to basketball. In the meantime, I will focus on dealing responsibly with this serious situation and I will continue to cooperate fully with the investigations by law enforcement and NBA authorities."
-- Gilbert Arenas

Wizards"We fully endorse the decision of the NBA to indefinitely suspend Gilbert Arenas. Strictly legal issues aside, Gilbert's recent behavior and statements, including his actions and statements last night in Philadelphia, are unacceptable. Some of our other players appeared to find Gilbert's behavior in Philadelphia amusing. This is also unacceptable. Under Abe Pollin's leadership, our organization never tolerated such behavior, and we have no intention of ever doing so."
-- Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld, principal owner Irene Pollin, Washington Sports Entertainment CEO Robert Pollin and WSE president James Pollin

Hunter "The Players Association was informed today that Gilbert Arenas has been suspended indefinitely by the NBA as a result of his actions in bringing firearms into his team locker room. Gilbert has acknowledged his regret regarding this incident, and the Players Association is aware that there is an ongoing criminal investigation taking place. The Players Association will continue to monitor the investigation being conducted by law enforcement authorities and the Commissioner's office. At the conclusion of these investigations we will determine the appropriate action to take on Gilbert's behalf."
-- National Basketball Players Association executive director Billy Hunter

Arenas is under investigation by federal and local authorities after admittedly bringing guns to the Wizards' locker room. Stern originally planned to wait to take action, but he tired of Arenas' behavior.

On Tuesday, a day after meeting with law enforcement officials, Arenas said he feared Stern more than the authorities because the commissioner was "mean."

Though Arenas first apologized Monday for his poor judgment and promised "to do better in the future," he also joked on Twitter about the incident and the media firestorm it created. That was exactly the wrong tact for Stern, whose league has taken another public relations hit.

"The possession of firearms by an NBA player in an NBA arena is a matter of the utmost concern to us," Stern said.

"Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game," Stern said in a statement. "Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA."

With each game he misses, Arenas, who turned 28 on Wednesday, will lose about $147,200 of the $16.2 million he will earn this season in the second of a six-year, $111 million contract. As of Wednesday he had $9,429,505.41 remaining for this season. However, if the suspension lasts more than 12 games it can be appealed and heard by an independent arbitrator.

"I feel very badly that my actions have caused the NBA to suspend me, but I understand why the league took this action," Arenas said in a statement through his attorney. "I put the NBA in a negative light and let down my teammates and our fans. I am very sorry for doing that."

Arenas added that he had called Stern to apologize.

"While I never intended any harm or disrespect to the NBA or anyone else, my gun possession at the Verizon Center and my attempts at humor showed terrible judgment," he said. "I take full responsibility for my conduct."

League sources say Stern's decision to suspend Arenas at this time was a direct result of Arenas' flippant comments and attitude regarding the situation. Officials in the league office were incensed by the way Arenas mocked the reactions of the media and public toward his behavior on his Twitter page and in comments to reporters -- even before Tuesday's actions in Philadelphia.

Since Arenas already admitted to breaking league rules by bringing firearms into an NBA arena, Stern may not have waited until the entire legal process played out before issuing a suspension, but sources said it's "fair to say" Arenas' actions expedited the process. And while it was certainly not Stern's intention, the league realizes it may have also saved Arenas from further incriminating himself by getting him out of the spotlight.

Arenas originally said he brought four guns to the Verizon Center because he wanted them out of his house after his daughter was born. But two officials within the league who have been briefed on the investigation have told The Associated Press that the incident stemmed from a dispute over card-playing gambling debts and a heated discussion in the locker room with teammate Javaris Crittenton. The New York Post, however, reported that the two teammates drew weapons on each other.

Arenas said in a statement Monday that he took unloaded guns from his locker in a "misguided effort to play a joke" on a teammate.

"Joke or not, I now recognize that what I did was a mistake and was wrong," Arenas said. "I should not have brought the guns to DC in the first place, and I now realize that there's no such thing as joking around when it comes to guns -- even if unloaded."

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that some of Arenas' closest friends had urged him in recent days to curtail his excessive use of Twitter and his ongoing nonchalant commentary about the incident.

But Arenas resisted those pleas, saying over and over that relying on humor was the only way he knows how to deal with crisis.

Stern said members of the Wizards organization are still being interviewed by law enforcement authorities.

"Some are scheduled for appearance before the grand jury and the investigation is proceeding with the intensity that one would expect for such a serious incident," Stern said.

Arenas has been suspended once before because of a gun-related matter. He sat out Washington's season opener in 2004 because he failed to maintain proper registration of a handgun while living in California in 2003 and playing for the Golden State Warriors.

A text message left for Arenas by The Associated Press was not immediately returned.

A Wizards spokesman said Arenas left the team, which is playing in Cleveland, earlier Wednesday but didn't know where he was going.

"It's sad," Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson said. "You don't want to see a player go down like that. We're a family, and it hurts."

The Wizards supported Stern's decision in a statement attributed to president Ernie Grunfeld and the Pollin family, which owns the team. The late Abe Pollin changed the team's name from the Bullets because of the violent connotation.

"Strictly legal issues aside, Gilbert's recent behavior and statements, including his actions and statements last night in Philadelphia, are unacceptable," the statement said. "Some of our other players appeared to find Gilbert's behavior in Philadelphia amusing. This is also unacceptable."

Union executive director Billy Hunter said the players' association will wait until the investigation is complete before taking any action.

Since the firearms language was strengthened in the 2005 collective bargaining agreement, NBA players are subject to discipline if they bring guns to the arena or practice facility, or even an offsite promotional appearance. That gave Stern the option of taking action now instead of waiting until the completion of the criminal case, as he usually does.

Arenas' suspension deprives the Wizards of their top scorer and on-court leader. As it is, coach Flip Saunders' first season with the team has been a struggle: The Wizards entered Wednesday's game at Cleveland with an 11-21 record and in last place in the Southeast Division.

It caps a remarkably swift and long fall from the top of the game for Arenas, a three-time All-Star who averaged 28.4 points in 2006-07 and 29.3 in 2005-06 and whose carefree demeanor was a hit with fans -- but not Stern.

Taking on nicknames such as Agent Zero and Hibachi, he would predict a 50-point game and deliver. He would produce highlight-reel buzzer-beating shots, turning his back to the net and raising his arms in triumph before the ball was through the net.

But Arenas tore up his left knee during a game in April 2007, leading to the first of three operations on that knee in the span of 1½ years.

He played in only 13 games in 2007-08, and only two games last season. He was healthy from the start of the current season and had been showing flashes of his previous brilliance, scoring 45 points in a game against Phoenix last month.

Information from ESPN.com senior NBA writer Marc Stein, ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard and The Associated Press was used in this report.

While the past decade has seen great strides in medical technology, it hasn't seen solutions to all of our health problems.

There were novel viruses that threatened to kill us all. There were toxins in our children's toys, and we were told to worry about the junk they were eating.

Some of these threats turned out to be almost nonexistent. Others were arguably overblown. Some caused widespread harm.

So what new threats have been robbing you of sleep since the annual odometer rolled over from 1999 to 2000? Join us as we take a look at the top ten new threats of the last ten years.

Swine Flu (H1N1)

Since it came to public attention in the United States in April, the largest health scare of 2009 has been swine flu. While other forms of the virus typically peak in February and largely affect the elderly, this strain of the H1N1 flu virus came out of season and mostly affected younger people. In June, the World Health Organization declared the virus a pandemic, meaning that it was widespread on multiple continents.

Manufacturers began producing vaccine at the end of the spring, but there were shortages nationwide, even late into the fall.

While the majority of cases of the flu have been mild, thousands of American deaths have been attributed to the virus.

But no matter the severity, many health experts agree there are lessons to be learned.

"We just have to note, and this was a bit scary, that when H1N1 came along in communities... our capacity to take care of [patients] was stretched," said Dr. William Schaffner, Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. "We don't have a lot of reserve in the health care system anymore.

In most American households, at least one person started the new year with the resolution to get healthier and lose weight.

Drs. Mehmet Oz and Michael Roizen share their two-week diet plan.

Millions began diets. Tens of thousands joined health clubs. And an undetermined number began their diets at Taco Bell. That's right: Taco Bell.

Taco Bell has begun a controversial ad campaign introducing the Drive-Thru Diet. According to Taco Bell, their new "Fresco Menu" can help with "calorie reductions."

The fine print says this menu is not a weight-loss program. That makes the fact they call it the Drive-Thru-Diet a little misleading, but consistent from a chain whose "Fiesta Taco Salad," with 770 calories and 41 grams of fat, is the worst thing on the menu.

Do you remember Jared Fogle, the young man who claimed to have lost 245 pounds eating twice a day at Subway? Fogle became their national spokesman in 2000 and has appeared in over 70 TV commercials pushing Subway as a healthy fast-food alternative. Subway has used eating healthy as its marketing platform and even started a foundation to fight childhood obesity. Its slogan, "Eat Fresh," is one of the most recognizable in fast-food advertising. The strategy has worked well. With over 32,300 locations, Subway has surpassed McDonald's as the fast-food chain with the most outlets. Now Taco Bell is singing out of Subway's hymn book. They have hired Christine Dougherty as a spokeswoman. Dougherty claims to have lost 54 pounds over two years eating at Taco Bell. As proof, a commercial juxtaposes a picture of chunky Christine with the now-svelte Christine fresh off the Taco Bell diet.

Taco Bell has done its homework. Americans spend over $50 billion a year on diet-related products., according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. On any given day, 45 percent of women and 25 percent of men are on a diet, the CDC says.

According to doctors and researchers alike, the diets followed by Jared and Christine -- calorie-restrictive diets -- are the most difficult to do and nearly impossible to maintain. Experts explain that any diet that severely restricts caloric intake will lead to weight loss, no matter what the food choices are.

The problem, they warn, is these diets are too narrow in focus and not sustainable in the long term.

Proof positive may be recent pictures of a chubby Jared despite the hefty salary he is paid that would motivate him to keep the weight off. In fact, Christine's diet, at 1,250 calories a day, is just 50 calories above the minimum number of calories doctors believe is safe to eat each day according to the American College of Sports Medicine.

3rd Six Weeks Narrative

This six weeks have been very frustrating, I have been getting distracted frequently and that’s not good at all. At first I was failing my chemistry class and boy am I trying to get my grades up in her class. As time passed I have been putting forth some effort quite enough for me to at least past my semester and get my credit. Well I have been trying so much for that class that sometimes I do not pay attention to any other of my classes because im so focused on the class that I need to work in so yea is some sort of balance that im having to put up with I have been going up and down with those classes all this six weeks so far and im ready to stop that. Although I really feel as if the school is getting much more smaller and that im starting to know more places that I had no idea on the places ever existing. Specially with the scavenger hunt that we had to do I felt as if I knew more of this school and its environment. I have really been hanging in there and so far im seeing results from most of my classes well hopefully it stays that way. All this dead week and stuff is really not getting to me it seems like twice more the work that i usually put in everyday. Studying isn't really my thing and i dont know how ama put up with it i have to keep on hanging in there in order to pass i think i can do it but is going to be hard at the same time. I cant wait til finals for me thats when the new year really does begin as is a fresh new start and of course a new semester. I also like finals because we leave early yup thats fun. well this week is pretty much going real quick hope it goes like this til the end of the year. Actually my resolution is that for this next school year i try my best to get accept it to college without having to go through many problems with my transferring and well to try to graduate early if i can. Hopefully everything goes by good and my resolution gets accomplished. well this has been my third six weeks personal narrative...!
